Fever is a common sign of infection and often improves with fluids, rest, and medicines recommended for the child's age and weight.
Seek medical review for infants, breathing difficulty, repeated vomiting, dehydration, unusual drowsiness, rash, or fever that persists beyond expected duration.
A pediatrician may recommend tests only when the history and examination suggest they are needed.
