Cardiac Care
Heart symptoms that should not wait
A practical guide to chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and when to seek emergency help.
Heart symptoms can be subtle, especially in older adults and people with diabetes. Chest pressure, sweating, breathlessness, fainting, or pain moving to the jaw or arm should be assessed urgently.
Preventive checks are useful when risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, or family history are present. A clinician can decide whether ECG, echo, blood tests, or further review is needed.
Emergency care is safest when symptoms are new, severe, or worsening. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint or have ongoing chest discomfort.
